Care to draw a doodle on your monitor? You could do that for real; just take some pens and markers and doodle on your monitor. Good luck trying to clean it up afterwards though. There is another, less destructive means of doodling on your monitor – get the right piece of software.

The right piece of software in this situation is the Trennova-developed and aptly named application Doodler. Thanks to this application you can draw on your monitor using virtual pens and markers, not real ones. You draw on whatever is displayed on your monitor, not actually on your monitor.

The Doodler application sits in the system tray waiting for you to call it out. Click the Doodler System tray icon and a jar with 3 pens (a red, a black and a blue one) and 3 markers (a white, a yellow, and a green one) will show up. you can drag an drop the jaw anywhere on your screen.

In the right hand side of the jar there are two icons:
- An X icon; click it and you will close Doodler.
- A red square. Click it to temporarily disable Doodler and clean up whatever you doodled. After you click the red square it turns green; click the green square and Doodler is back up and running.

Doodling with the Doodler application couldn’t be easier. You simply click the pen or marker you want to use and hold down the left mouse button to doodle. Draw whatever you want on top of whatever you see on your monitor. You can draw on top of a website opened in your browser, on top of an image opened with Windows Photo Viewer, you can draw on top of the chart you’re working on.

Before you go get Doodler, take the time to look at the technical details presented below:
Download – the download weighs in at 1.1MB.
Supported OS – the developer says its best to use the application on Windows XP.
Limitations – you can use Doodler free of charge for a trial period of 30 days.

Pros

  • Lightweight download
  • Easy to use
  • Sits in the system tray

Cons

  • Free to try (30-day trial)
  • Few pens and markers
